I've been using those 3' markers with the reflector on top to try and mark parts of my driveway/parking area for snow blowing. My drive winds up a steep hill with woods/rocks on each side so I have to be fairly careful.

I've had a hard time finding enough of them (I need about 20) and they are about $2 ea. and flimsy. Also people don't see them as they arn't tall enough & keep backing over and breaking them at the top parking area.

I went to Home Depot and found 4' metal fence posts for $1.97 ea. I installed these and tied orange flourescent tape to the tops. Works great & sturdy enough to reuse.

Just thought I'd pass the info along.

i use the same plastic markers u were using. i was going to switch to the metal ones but then i figured when someone backs over the plastic, they just bend over or break, no damage to the vehicle, the metal fence post are a differnt storry, they could scratch vehicles that scrape them. just a thought.

I use 1/2" EMT conduit. I think it costs about $3.00 per ten-foot piece and I cut it into 5' pieces. Plenty tall. I spray the top 6" with day-glo orange for visibility.

I use those plastic tomato stakes. They're about 4 foot long and pretty durable. The ones I use actually look like rebar but are a green plastic. Between garden use and driveway markers, I can usually get 3-4 years out of them. If I recall, the last ones I bought were about $15/dozen.

I finally had to use 4x4x8' sunk 3' in the ground because nothing else lasts. I put them on the softer part of the side of the drive so when someone hits one ,they will bend over and not break.

Might have been me. You can see some of the candy canes along the drive on the right side of this photo.

I put the 1/2" EMT "stakes" in the ground at 10 foot intervals about 4' outside the driveway gravel at the first forecast of snow. In December I slip the candy canes (made from 3/4" PVC) over the EMT stakes and hang a string of mini Christmas lites from cane-to-cane. At the end of December, I take up the lites and candy canes and leave the markers in until all threat of snow is gone.
