None... yet.
I took my babysitter who just turned 18 (get yer head outta the gutter, she is my wife's niece) to the Better Than Ezra concert tonight at the House of Blues. For those who don't know, the HOB is smack dab in the middle of the Mardi Gras madness, it was a zoo!

We got there early and were the 4th, 5th and 6th people into the hall, center stage front row! There was a good brass band as warm up. Then Better Than Ezra takes the Stage... and...

HOLY ****!!!!!!!

They brought out the ****ing LOMBARDI Trophy! Wanda got to touch it (I was busy trying to get a picture of her touching it, but it didn't come out and it happened really fast! This show was just amazing to begin with, but when they started the show by throwing Better Than Ezra beads/medallions and had the Saints front office there with the Lombardi trophy... this is a night that she will NEVER forget! The pics are terrible but we're just happy to have the ones that came out at all.

There might be a few more but I'm whipped, so I'll post any others that are at least viewable later.

Nope. That is vocalist and guitarist Kevin Griffin from the alternative rock band Better Than Ezra. They are a New Orleans based band that hit the big time in 1995 and is touring in support of a newly released album "Paper Empire". They are one of my favorite performers, not only for their musical talent, but also for the way they mingle with us common folk here in New Orleans. Much like Tab Benoit, they are a quality group of gentlemen.

It was good to see the NO folks having fun with the Superbowl + Mardi Gras. It looked like good times on the news at least. A couple of the people they interviewed on the street were having a few enunciation issues - above and beyond that funny way Southerner's speak :D:D

What does it mean 'the NO police officially close all bars at midnight on Fat Tuesday'? For how long?
Dave.

They don't actually close the bars. (Some bars never close) :D
At midnight the police ride down Bourbon Street on horses lined curb to curb and in police cars with PA systems announcing "Mardi Gras is over, everyone out of the street". Then the street cleaning machines drive down the street removing most of the debris.

Many people go home at this time but many others simply move into a bar, walk the sidewalks, or return to the streets after the street cleaners pass by.

The average New Orleans native has had too much to drink already by this time and is already home leaving the streets to the tourists. :)

Thanks for clearing that up TallyHo8, I thought it could be some sort of tradition or ceremonial thing. Anyways, glad the folks down there have something to celebrate. They deserve some fun I think.
Dave.
