In the old days I'd drag a log into a clearing, mark it, wire brush the dirt off the bark, cut halfway thru, use my Peavey to roll it over, complete the cuts, and roll the stove-length chunks over to the splitter.

With Clementine's help, I now lift the log off the ground with the FEL, move it right next to the splitter, mark and cut. The pieces fall to the ground right next to where they'll be split. Best of all, there's no imbedded dirt to dull my chains!

Check out the pic.

Pete,
I see you got your bucket hooks welded on, Must be working out for you. Did you do it yourself?

I've found using the bucket to lift logs for cutting to be real useful too. Just be careful to cut from alternating sides so it doesn't become imbalanced and tip over!

I discovered another trick in place of marking the tree to get properly cut lengths of fire wood. Measure the desired length from the tip of your chain bar and mark the bar. Then just hold the bar along side the log to locate the correct cut location, and have at it. You can walk right down the log and dice it up in no time.

Actually they're not welded yet. Not till Monday. For now I just use hooks on both ends of a six foot chain...and lift very carefully! I called the local police and asked if it was legal for me to drive Clementine to the welding shop. "Technically it's not legal," was the reply. So I asked if they had any objections if I drove to the shop on a weekday when the tourist traffic was down. "Technically it's not legal," was the reply. So finally I asked if they would pull me over if they saw Clementine sashaying down Main Street. "We wouldn't mess with you," was the reply. "But technically it's not legal." /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Peter -- The proper length for my stove is from the bartip to the end of the "Husqvarna" logo...but marking them gives my wife something useful to do. Can't figure her out. She'll gripe all day and half the night if I ask for help, but insist I must be upset with her if I don't ask. Being married gets pretty confusing at times.

Did they give you a reason why it's not leagal? I asked my local law official and he said as long as you had the SMV sign and "lights" working it was to be o.k. Now that I mentioned it he told me it wasn't leagal or illeagal. I'll have to ask him again.

That would like to see you and Clementine at the three way stop in the middle of Stowe sipping on some of that GMR coffee, "sashaying"/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif!

Pete,
What model Husqvarna do you have to compliment Clementine?. I run the 55 rancher along with Jezebel. I have driven Jezebel down the road and haven't had a problem with the local authorities. I don't think you will have a problem as long as you don't ram the police station!
