Beware of a PHISHING attempt claiming to be from Netflix. Got one in my email saying my account was on hold and click here to update my payment info. Never click on a link in an email like that. Instead go directly to your account and make sure it is okay.
If you get such an attempt you can forward it to PHISHING@NETFLIX.COM

Yeah, those scams are quite common. I get them from places where I don't even have an account. They are just hoping that you are dumb enough to give them your information.

It's not Netflix's fault. The phishers just used the name (and if they're good, they rip off the graphics and format their email to look like one from the company they're spoofing). The phishers don't know who has what accounts; they're just spamming everyone on a big list of email addresses they bought.

If you're not sure it's a phishing email, it probably is. One way I can tell is to look at the full headers. There should be a number of Received lines starting with the mail server at your ISP. They let you trace the hops the email took from the sender to you. Use them to trace backwards. (the Sender line is often spoofed). If the originator is not from the company that's supposedly sent the email but is from a host on some ISP or just an IP address it's a phish.

Hold your mouse curser over the email address and it will show you the actual source. It should agree with who they say that they are.

Best way I've found to keep dangerous email out of the inbox is to use a "whitelist" filter.

I didn't say it was Netflix's fault. Netflix has a vested interest in crooks using their name and logo to try and defraud people so it's good practice to forward such attempts to them. They have better resources for tracking such perps down and prosecuting them.

For whatever platform/browser you use, it is good to learn how to view the URL for a link without activating it. In the above example, the link will not be something.netflix.com. It will be an entirely different URL.

I seen on the news yesterday that now there are scammers that do something to gas pumps where the credit card goes in they put in another card reader and steal the numbers without anyone knowing til you get your credit card statement, good grief if I was half that smart I wouldn't have to steal for living. I do have an idea where all this scamming is leading to.

I couldn't see anything until I "quoted" you. Very funny. :D

That's been around for a while. Now they are saying that you should go inside to pay. Since I always fill my tank that would mean going inside, standing in line until I can hand my card to the minimum wage cashier, who will then hold onto it while I go out and pump my gas and go back and stand in line again.
Not going to happen, my card doesn't leave my sight.

They also can scan your card as you walk past them. Last year I drove down to visit my parents, and as is my custom I checked my CC account when I got back home. Apparently I didn't check closely enough though, as someone had used my card to buy a $90.00 gift card to Macy's. I got it reversed, but the GC had already been used. They never tried to use my card again, and I have to wonder how many people don't even notice that they've been scammed
