BFD!

Fill that in however you wish in your mind, but I mean Black Friday Deals. They're everywhere and I'm getting annoyed with them. BFD used to be a single day, the Friday after Turkey Day. You started seeing ads the Wednesday before since the whole thing was supposed to be a secret and full of surprise deals you didn't see any other time. Now 'the day' seems to be every day, all year long and the deals aren't that great.

Why do they ruin things?

There you have it. Simply, just ignore all the so called "Black Friday" ads if you don't like them.

What I feel is even repulsive, is all the stores that are open for "Specials" on Thanksgiving Day. People have grown more concerned with shopping for "bargains" than sitting down together, giving thanks, and enjoying a special meal together as a family. How times and priorities have changed!

This is what time off from work is all about. Life is too short not to relish these moments.

I couldn't agree more. Seems to me that most of today's society has not experienced some of the economic lows that the older, rural generation has experienced, and "giving thanks" does not have quite the meaning to them that it does for some of us. Life is more poignant when it is accompanied with difficulties, and also with a passion. Thanksgiving and Christmas, at least the family unity part, has always been special to me. My earliest memories of Christmas are of a long trip to Grandma and Grandpa's house; seeing my Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, and maybe a toy or two and a new pair of shoes.
