Hello friends,

Well I'm ready to get my BH installed on the KAMA 454. I have a "modified" Ford 758. It now has an external prince pump to run off the PTO. This is good. It also has a sub frame to help with the 3PH setup, this is also good. When I bought it was mounted on a Ford 600 series tractor. I think this is when she was modified.

I had quite a chalenge to jack/prop the BH so I could back the KAMA to get an idea how it was going to fit. This is what I noted. Either the Top link holes are too far foward or the lift arms are too long. From the looks of things, the previous 'home' was set by getting the pins in to the lift arms and the weldiding begain.

As you may know, BHs don't have any adjustment like most 3PH attachments, there is no adj bar coming from the top link.

I was planning on removing the top link..stuff and getiing the pins set for the lift arms. Then level the beast and reweld the top link assembly to fit.

Advice/questions; Are BHs made for perticlar tractors...due to the fact there is no adjustment??

Is there any reason why the top link bar can't come from a more horizontal position? If you look at the attachment, there is 1/2" plate steel fame on the other side of the tank. As an engineer, the top link is in compresssion or tension depending what the cowboy is doing.

Thanks,

Patrick

HI Patrick,
I am having a hard time figuring out what the blue bars are on the bottom, I see the lift pins on the end of what appears to be a drawbar. Normally on a 3 point, a regular type top link is used to adjust for level. Remember your 3 point should not be holding this up and you should have some type of cross bracing (appears to be present) to hold the hoe from jumping up and down. Watch the roll bar/sun shade on your head. It oughta work but appears it was custom fab for last mount.

Chip,

The blue bar along the bottom is the sub frame. It will need to be extended to tie in with the FEL sub frame. The unpainted pc at a diagnal is the top link attachment. It is definatly custom. But that is the point, it appears it was made to fit this older ford tractor.

Are you saying there should be an adjustable link/rod from the top point of the 3PH to the top link of the BH?

Not sure what you are saying with regards to the roll bar/sun shade.

IF you can find a way to attach without an adjustable top link that would probably be better, but the ones I have seen all use a reular top link. Koyker/Kelly use two more top links running from top part of hoe to draw bar brackets, this prevents the up and down motion while digging. Sometimes the seating position will put your head close to roll bar and/or sunshade and if the hoe bounces, you can hit your head, but if you attach this by sub frame instead of 3 point, you will not have so much bouncing. Some subframe type backhoes use top link also, as it apears this one does...

Now I understand. With out the top link you you fly into the ROP/sunshade.

I was hoping I could just attach this beast via the 3PH and make the mod for the sub frame. Looks like I will need to redo the top link framing.

It's never easy is it? Oh well, grinder and welder will have a bit to do!

Thanks for all the input. I'm going without a toplink adj bar. I just don't have room since the modification has added a seperate pump and tank. I do like the seperate tank/pump.

So I will set it up for the "fits one tractor, my KAMA". I used an angle grinder and cut the welds holding the top most section of the 3PH. I will mount the BH on the tractors lifting arms and get the sub frame secured. Then when all is set/level, I will weld the top section of the 3PH back on in the new/correct location.

I will post pictures when I get it done.

Thanks again,

Patrick
