Mahindra Max 28XL, HST, TLB
Hello,
I am getting ready to purchase a used (43hrs) Max 28XL TLB.
Dealer is too far for me operate the unit and I do not have any other dealers close to me.

What I need to know is what lever does what ?
I am use to,the left lever controlling the first part of the boom, in out left right, and the right lever controlling the outer boom, in out and the bucket.
Also, when you are drawing the BH bucket in and want to keep the bottom level can you draw back on both levers and get a level bottom to a trench ?

Also, does the FEL have a float position ?

Thanks up front, any comments welcome, just remember I am still a newbie when it comes to tractors.

Info: I have used a Yanmar SC2450 for fours years, which operates similar to what I am asking about and would like to keep the operation the same.

It's pretty easy to re-learn the different configurations. It is also fairly easy to swap hoses around to get the configuration that you like

What may be more of a problem is that small back hoes are quick & weak as opposed to big ones that are slow & strong

controls.jpgI don't think the max 28 hoe would look any different then my Wallenstein.

that's what it is on the 3016 as well.

To the OP, yes to everything. There should be a sticker on yours like there is on mquitas machine, and mine.

Thanks to all for the comments.
I am really interested in knowing the operation of the levers more than "I can learn a new operating system".
I just wanted an idea of what to,expect before I buy the tractor.
If the controls are different and I want them similar to my Yanmar controls, is it possible to re-plumb the controls ?

Thanks to,all again, I appreciate your comments, makes me think outside of my own blinders.

Ok, not sure what manufacturer makes the BH on the Mahindra Tractors.
If this is the type on there, how is it working, does it dig well ?

Thanks

It works quite well. I own the model you are looking at. Mine is a shuttle shift and that is the reason why I purchased it. I do recommend the smaller bucket unless you live where the soil is sandy. My brother owns the SC2450 TLB and let me use it prior to my getting a Mahindra. I was impressed to say the least; at what his tractor could do. I put around 7hours on that Cub and knew after returning it to him that there would be a tractor of my own in the near future. Honestly, I didn't think that it was a capable machine when he dropped it off, "It looked kinda like a toy to me". So why didn't I run and get one for myself....

I wanted a gear drive, and that is the only reason I didn't pick up the same model he owned. I never would have purchased the Backhoe but after using his- it became priority. I didn't like that the bucket would not clear a truck bed for loading and unloading purposes. Which brought me to the Max 28. I have had no regrets in my choice.

I didn't get the small bucket and it will struggle through topsoil that has roots running through it, but once I pass the top layer it will dig fine. Your dipper (the arm connected to the bucket seems a bit stronger) my bucket seems to be stronger- if that makes any sense. Loader is where you will see the biggest difference night and day. Controls are identical between them and there is a float and quick dump as well on the Mahindra.

I could go on but hope you get the gist of what I said. Good luck with your purchase!! I am wondering why you are looking for a different tractor though? Care to share your thoughts? I still do like that SC2450 its a brawny little tractor.

Thanks for that.
To answer your question about why.
I wanted a tractor with more FEL lifting power, that is the main reason.

My wife asks me the same question.

How much larger is the Max28 vs the SC2450, can you notice the difference ?

The Max is taller and a little longer. Tires are noticeably bigger/wider.

Difference's

I have a very steep hill out back and drove the SC2450 up it; something that no lawn mower could do 'would spin tires'. there was some tranny whine after reaching the steepest grade which made me a bit nervous. No way would I take anything less than 4wd up or down the hill. So after bringing the Max home I drove the same hill both ways and it did not whine at all. I was more comfortable in the cub as it sat closer to the ground but the Max seemed to be very stable as well. It is the reason I went no larger than the Max series because any larger than those tractors and I would be too afraid of tipping over." the hill is that bad " just over the initial decent and every part of your body is holding on- including the buttocks.

Both turn on a dime and was a factor in the decision. I will say that you will keep the versatility in tight spaces (in the woods and up close to the house). The size of the Mahindra helps in dumping stuff in the bed of a pickup truck. Max28 doesn't feel BIG or un-manageable like the taller tired tractors. Odd, I am trying to think or find differences and am struggling to find any that you would really notice. Visibility is comparable because you sit above the tires on both.

In all honesty I think you will not notice the size difference when using either one; step off and it is obvious.

On a side note- if you have French doors on your house.... the loader/bucket will clear the opening. A full bucket filled with firewood can be delivered inside without tracking mud/snow/debris from multiple trips from the kids. Just an FYI
