I am interested in either fabricating or purchasing a thumb for my BX23. I am after the mechanical one (no hydrualics). Does anyone have a layout if I fab., or a connection to purchase? Will/could this overstress the dipperstick?
Thanks for the help.

HELLO,
Alot of the people here are buying there thumbs, which is alot easier.I built mine last winter, and posted in the build it yourself section,if you want to search. It was called twiddling my thumb.Building your own does take a lot of planning,to ensure its correct. There are different designs out there and alot to think about.I probably overkilled mine with 1 inch pins and all,how ever i have had 0 problems with it,even after relocating a stone wall on my property, many of the rocks i could barely lift.Access to a plasma cutter, good welder and a heavy duty drill press is needed for similar designs to mine,if you are to do the work yourself. There is alot of personal satisfaction in making your own,but it is not the easiest way to go.
You will have no problem what so ever with your dipperstick, just be sure to choose a design that will fold completely out of the way, when you aint using it.I welded mine on ,and i am glad i did.If you look closely at your dipper stick there is "extra steel hanging off the bottom" so it wont effect your strength .I could grind the welds easly and remove it,if i ever wanted to {why i would i dont know}however the bolt ons are probably just as strong,im not knocking them.
YOU WILL LOVE A HTUMB...GO FOR IT
ALAN
