BH75 stabilizer dropping

I noticed the other day that one of the stabilizers on my BH75 was on the ground. Just one; the other is up like it always is. I put it back in its normal position, but the next day it was back down again.

I dug out a stump the next day, and everything is working as usual. There is no loss of strength in the stabilizer. There are no leaks that I can find.

Is this a seal issue? If so, how much aggravation and $$ to fix?

If there are no leak issues and it's hitting the ground overnight, I'd guess it's a valve thing. Make sure there is no dirt in there that may be holding the lever/valve just off true neutral. Blow it out with some air and maybe lube it with something that's not too prone to collecting dirt. If that's not the problem, I'd guess the valve is leaking some, but I'll leave that and the rest to Others.

Valving is a remote possibility. More likely it is simply fluid bypassing the stabilizer cylinder piston block seal. You will notice that ocassionaly during use you must reactuate the stabilizer because the machine begins to settle toward the ground.
There are five possible fixes with varying amounts of aggravation.
You can buy the seal kit for about $43 and you supply the labor.
You can take it to a hydraulic shop for about $150
You can replace the cylinder for about $300.
You can let the dealer take care of it for about $400.
OR YOU CAN STRAP THE TWO STABILIZERS TOGETHER in the up position. Thats what the rest of us generally do.

I have a small dent in my Wheelhorse because the hb90 stepped on it so be careful where you moor the tractor.

There may be additional fixes and the dollar amounts may need to be adjusted. If I got everything correct every time they would let me out of here. I have to go get my treatment now.

The right Staplelizer on my BX23 will drop about 1/2" .
I've never seen it drop any more than that.

The L/H stabalizer on mine has suddenly started doing that, It has room to settle to the gorund so nothing else is going to get damaged.
I was supprised that they did stay up, my previous BH stabalizers would bleed down overnight straight from the get-go.
I don't care who builds it I don't trust any actuator to hold itself up.

I just purchased L-48 and have the same problem. I thought I'd broken the thing. It it is still under warrenty. Thank God. But it seems like it is a common problem.

I would not say its a problem. Its normal for hydraulics to leak down. On a backhoe, its really common for them to be on the ground by morning. Now, if things are dropping in an hours time, or if your having to make corrections while your out operating that might be somthing to address, but a bit of drift in the cylinders is nothing of concern.

I just rebuilt a stabilizer cylinder on an old hoe. The "odd" thing is that it was built like a single acting cylinder. That is only one set of packings and that set is oriented to hold pressure when the arm is down (hoe up). It makes sense, there isn't any need to apply great power to raise the stabilzer arms up. So, they will tend to droop over time. Yours may or may not be built the same way.

Oh, FEL cylinders were also built this way. I guess it's cheaper.

Bottom line, it's no big deal until the stabilizer can't hold the hoe up while using it.
