The belt for my 48" Big Bee finishing mower keeps breaking.

Breaking or burning through itself? Was it adjusted too tight or too loose?
First thing I would check is that all the pulleys and idlers are turning smoothly, then make sure that they're all lined up with each other. Might also look them over closely to make sure none have burrs or sharp edges.
If all those check out, is it possible to leave the covers off so that you can watch the new belt in action?

Besides response from Gunny are you using OME belt(s) ? I've seen folks go through more belts trying to save a buck using for instance Huskee Kevlar belts from TSC instead of OME belts. Just mention that brand from what I've knowtised doesn't mean others have not success with that brand or other aftermarket parts/etc.

I've got a 60 inch Big Bee finish mower. I had a problem breaking belts. All the pulleys are in excellent shape. The arm that the tensioner pulley is on was slightly loose. The belt tension would pull it off kilter a little bit causing the belt to come off and get chewed up or break. I solved the problem by tightening the bolt that holds the idler arm to the deck.
