When I last night went My bedroom and thinking go to bed I first take a look on window and see this...
Two big birds ( Common crane , Grus Grus) eating peacefully just behind My bedroom window, Common Crane is quite big bird and it is very great to see it so closely here I want to share this with You. :)

By the way here You see also what "middle night sun" looks because I take this video last night in 9:20 PM.

More about this bird in wikipedia.

What are they eating. Here the big cranes search for fish, frogs and crayfish in shallow waters. We have cattle egrets (common from Africa) that roam the pastures eating grasshoppers and other bugs. They generally follow grazing cattle and I have seen them on the backs of cattle just snacking at bugs as they fly by.

They eating worms and maybe frogs, I think they eat every little creature that they catch. This cranes are winter times in Africa and fly back when spring coming.
So Your Cranes no move anywhere when winter comes. ?

I'm fairly sure that Cranes in your yard is considered very lucky in some parts of Asia and Japan.

We have an abundance of Sandhill cranes here. They seem to feed just like your's do and they have the same shape but the bills are slightly longer and narrower. Sandhill cranes have red heads and gray bodies so I suspect they feed on different things. These cranes have a very loud call that sounds like a dinosaur. It can be heard a mile away.
Here is a picture of a young one i took a few years back.

Thank you for posting that, I feel like I'm just a little luckier than I was a few moments ago

Nice picture You have. :)

Then I must be very lucky Man because Cranes visit My backyard every year and many times in season. :)

"My Cranes" are very loud too, also can hear if they are in this region, many times in summer they wake Me up when they start to toot 3.00 AM on My backyard..

Cranes, herons, bitterns, and egrets are what we have. Anywhere there is a good snowfall and frozen water in the winter - we have them migrate. One past student told me of finding a dead great blue heron with its feet frozen in the ice, late in its migration, probably looking for something to stir and nothing did.
