2018 Kioti CK4010HST
I have a 2018 CK4010H Kioti and it was giving me a run of water in fuel lights with subsequent drops to limp mode. I did store it in am unconditioned barn since I bought it (early 2020 with 55 hrs on it.) It now has 126 hours.

I did not have the tank topped off that I can remember over the winter or anytime really. Anyways, I got two back to back water warnings the other day even after draining the fuel filter. So I got a new filter, and captured the fuel that came out.
Here is that fuel. I don't see water. Fuel is from a high volume truck stop that was constructed new last year. It's a road ranger.

On top of the fuel filter housing, I saw some black crud on the little silver valves(?) At the top. I took them off and dug this crap out. It's chunky almost like ground up tree leaves.

There was a very small amount of this brown Goop in the center top of the filter housing.

What kind of problem do I have here? Do I need a fuel system overhaul or a bottle of biocide and a few fresh filters?

After I cleaned it up today and put on the new filter, I ran the rotary cutter for two hours and the tractor ran like a champ. Thanks!

Picture 2 is microbial algae. You need to get some biocide and dose the tank. I recommend Powerservice Bio-Kleen. It's at TSC and Autozone. Don't be fooled by the supposed 'magic stuff' on the market. If it don't have an MSDS label attached to the bottle, it ain't an algaecide. You need to keep your tank full over the winter as a partial tank will sweat inside and the condensation growns algae.

Thanks! Any idea of the chunky black stuff?

Is there any harm or a way to add a pre filter from the tank?

I store my fuel in justrite steel cans with some diesel kleen additive. I buy 5 gallons at a time, I only have about 8 acres to brush hog.

I would hate to say it’s algae, although it might be. My gut reaction is something fell in your tractor tank. On mine the opening is big and it’s easy for something to fall in it, such as a leaf or bug.

Pretty normal water in fuel situation. The reason you dont have water in the jar of fuel is because the filter media absorbs it.
It that were my situation, which it has been more than a few times, I would run several tanks of fuel with algae treatment and keep a couple fuel filters handy and screw a new one on at first hint of any issues.

Why both mine have filler neck strainers installed. Sure looks like algae to me however.
