Congratulations on your newest addition. A Dealership, that sells you the tractor that you need, not a tractor that's on the lot, is a 'keeper'.

It's one of the main reasons I went 'green'. (y)

I bought an S240 last year, I really like it. I was a little worried it would have a tendency to get stuck being a lot heavier than what I was using before as my yard is very wet and very rough, nope. It goes everywhere, I'm very happy with it.

What were you using before? The S240 is an excellent mower, a great combination of the 100 series with the best parts of the X3xx combined to make what I would consider to be the best 'price point' mower on the market.

An old 13.5 HP Craftsman

My lawn is practically level, probably more than I really needed but built better than the lower tier Deere riders.

Did the Craftsman cut the grass ?

Does the JD cut it better or does it just make you feel good having you neighbors see you on your JD ?
Bitter much? Sounds like you care more about what lawnmower I have than my neighbors would if I had any.

To answer to your question though, no, it didn't. It was 40 years old and completely worn out. The last time I used it it broke a spindle and a belt idler locked up. Had no brakes, burned oil, the deck was rotten, the transmission was giving me problems for the second time, etc...

Also, I have no neighbors, like none. I live on 30 acres (most of which is forestland) surrounded by, more forestland. Outside of my family there's maybe three people who have seen my lawn mower and none of them care what it is.

Lastly, an S240 is not an expensive lawn mower... It's maybe $400 more than what Home Depot and Lowes sell, it's not like it's an X7 with 4 wheel steer or something.

Came in to dealer, wasn't able to get there before closing, looks like Tuesday will be first chance to pick it up.
Congrats! Sorry you had such a long wait, but it should be worth it in the long run. I am enjoying my X380.

My case is somewhat similar, with regard to land and isolation from neighbors. I am on a 19 acre wooded lot. the 3/4 acre or so that I mow is what we have cleared from forest land. I don't know whether any of my neighbors have seen me on my new JD, and I don't care whether they do.

I bought my expensive X380 to please me and nobody else. I earned the money. I paid cash. I am 75 and can't take it with me. Other than my understanding wife, it ain't nobody's business how I spend my retirement savings.

Skagit

Sorry about the no-so-nice post. It sounds like you use every bit of that old Craftsman that you could get out of it.

I have an affinity for old things, like lawn mowers and me.

So again, I apologize and hope you have great luck with your new JD.

Richard
