I agree but how many people really put “punishment” on a truck? Do there use it, just drive it like most or abuse it. Most are in the same boat as the SUV people. They use the truck about 20 times are year. Most time sthe max load is not that much. Then these are the some people the whine and $%&*$ about price…Too bad…

I do not know what you mean by “flog” but I know many non-usa cars that last longer then 100K miles here. I sit by one guy (right next to me) has over 250K miles on his Toyo. Another guy in my Dept has almost 400K miles on his Honda and over 300 on his Nissan.

Sorry for your bad experience with diesels, I firmly believe it is the future. You cannot even begin to compare the last 3-4yrs of diesel engines to their predicessors in the 70's-90's. They have become higher reving, higher HP/Tq, and better fuel economy choices. Plus they last forever if you take care of them because they are stronger and everything it injests is lubricated(as long as it has clean air).

I too have heard horror stories about VW's,(and others) though I have also heard alot of good. If its got wheels or $%^'s its bound to give you trouble at some point. Some, within any brand ,are without a doubt, better than others.

I do not think diesel is the future at all. Anything will last forver. It is called how much do you, the owner, want to shell out the fix it.

I agree, I hear good and bads too, but based that and on ratings for years, I will take #1 vs #34.

Forever might not be the proper term for a diesel, from my personal experience they will usually have at least double and probably more like triple the life span of a gas motor, life span being before any major repairs are needed and that is with them usually having a harder life……I believe that if you show them the life of a passenger car, they could very well last most of a lifetime, with proper maintenance they have been proven to go 900k without major repairs……..I have never hear of a gasser doing that… /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Again, I agree but who would want a diesel truck for that long? Not me. Add up all the items to make it last 900K and it would be cheaper to buy a new car. There gets a point in the life of any auto where parts, body issues, etc that a line must be drawn. For me if the repairs in 1-year cost more then the car/diesel truck is worth, time to move on. It becomes a money pit at that point.

As I stated, with un-limited funds, you can make things last forver..again if you have the money.

Hmmm... Why don't we all just drive what we choose to drive and be happy?

I have an old 92' chevy truck with over 250,000 miles, a 96' Windstar with over 180,000 miles and a behemoth 2003 Excursion diesel that gets 20 MPG and don't give a fat rats buttocks about anyone elses opinion concerning my vehicle choices. I have the title to each in my file cabinet. Works for me.

Drive what you want to drive. Don't worry. Be happy! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
