Big stump - thought it was going to roll

This was the toughest stump I've ever dug. Big fat pine in clay. Still too heavy to get out of the hole so far.

Once you are that far along and inverted the stump, use your bucket to knock off all the loose soil. It accounts for a large portion of the overall weight. The stump is a lot easier coming out of the hole if it's lightened up some.

I'm knocking as hard as I can. Even going to let it sit out in the rain tonight to help get the dirt off. The Tidewater clay is a hard to shake.
I guess the color is stock Forbota.

I have a big maple stump I want to work on, however I don't have a BH. Will a FEL bucket do the job or am I biting off more than I can chew?

I wouldn't recommend it TN. A FEL is built to peel and not really dig. You can see how close the house is so I could only get to 3 sides. If it is in the open trying burning it.

Once it's about as light as you can get it, and if still too heavy, could you chain it and lift it or drag it out? You may have to slope one end of the hole, to kind of serve as a ramp, but that might be a heck of a lot easier than trying to use that bucket to pick it up. That sure is one big stump - /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif makes that bucket look a little small I must say. Looks however like it did a fantastic job of breaking the roots and digging it free.
