I bet I have the largest Rattler in Texas on the property somewhere. It got two of my dogs last summer. The fang marks were about 2 1/4 to 2 1/2" apart! (Before the swelling.) That would put the head about the size of my fist. Since the weather broke and temps have been going up, we've been on the lookout. Can't get anyone to go hunting with me. Danged if I know why.
Had this one nearly land in my lap. I was clearing cactus with the dozer (small JD-420) and it got pinched in the tracks and flipped up on the fender. This is a tiny one. His head was about 1 1/2" across.
We were roadbuilding and hit a pocket of rattlers. Wads of them came up on the tracks and were all over the ground, the operator was screaming to get the pickup over so he could jump off the dozer, it was crawling with them.
