Bio fuels... not the Holy Grail?

"Heck, another example is hydrogen. That *sounds* even better. The by-product of combustion is water. Well, unfortunately it takes more energy (electricity I believe) to extract hydrogen from water than you get back when you burn it."

The best way to produce hydrogen is using electrolisis. Major plants like Niagara Falls in our area could produce hydrogen in non peek hours. Turbines run 24 hours a day but peek demand is only 8 hours per day.

Im starting from ignorance here .so bear with me. If you have a diesel engine compared with a gas engine for the same specs you get a better torque which is what you need for heavy work such as tractor use? Now if we switch to hydrogen would we be lacking even more in torque ? and therefore would we always need diesel for farm equipment?
