I would like to run biodiesel in my MT300D. Does anyone know if there are o-rings or other seals in the injection pump or elsewhere that would need replaced with viton seals? There are some external rubber fuel hoses that would need changed but I'm not sure about internal parts.

thanks,
John

I'd just run red diesel and save the 30 to 50 cent a gallon highway tax.

Why run bio anyway?

You should post this in the fuels and lubricants section. I might be dreaming but I thought there was some past discussion about mixing bio with regular to negate the problems you mentioned?

I'd skip the problem by running the red fuel and save about forty dollars a hundred gallon in the process.

Yeah, but used burrito grease can be free.....smells good too. :)

I say do it! Aren't the pollutants from Biodiesel minute compared to fossil diesel, too?

I remember something on the discovery channel that a guy converted his pickup to Biodiesel, and ONLY changed his fuel lines...I am sure there's whole websites dedicated to Biodiesel, and surely can answer questions about running it in an MT300.

(I run red Diesel too, by the way).

I am currently making bio for my Dodge Cummins pickup truck so I might as well burn it in the tractor too. The most activity my tractor sees is mowing 5 acres a few times per year so I'm not using much fuel either way. Most late model vehicles can run it straight without issues but some older vehicles will have issues with rubber hoses and seals. The biofuel is a very strong solvent. My truck loves it and the exhaust smells rather nice :) Thanks for the replies...

I talked to a guy from a soy based biodiesel manufacturer several years back. He said that some underground ore mines switched from regular to biodiesel to combat ill health effects. Then they found that the engines lasted much longer too. Apparently the bio has a better lubricity.
He also said that they suffered a lot off engine failures right after the switch. Analysis revealed that all the problems were related to certain deposits in the fuel storage and fuel system that were dissolved and cleaned by the biodiesel. Once they cleaned all up they had no issues.

I've been using homemade biodiesel in my Buck for 6+ years now. 100% bio in the warm months, cut with D1 up to 40% for the winter. My only problem has been not winterizing the fuel in time for the weather on occasion.

I have replaced the rubber fuel lines (did that before the bio), but otherwise no changes. IIRC the IP on the Satohs is similar in design to the older Bosch ones used on that vintage VW diesels, which have been using bio for some time without problems according to the VW forums I've read.
