Hello all,
Searched the forum and couldn稚 find anything relevant. I have a bird problem in the eave returns on my house. The space they get in is pretty small. Besides putting up a wooden owl or stuffing something into the void are there any other solutions folks have tried that works? Attached is a picture of one of them, you can see a small amount of nesting material just below the slot the get in.

Bird repellent gel. It comes in caulking tubes. I had great success with it keeping starlings out of gutters and downspouts.

Clear mono-filament fishing line,,

My brother moved to Colorado, him, and his neighbors had a problem with birds landing on their decks.
He remembered seeing the line used on docks in Virginia,

Just a few strands is all that is needed,, the birds can not see the line, and bump into it.
If you scare them one time, they never come back.

I plan on adding a few strands over my berry brambles this year,,,,
just to see what happens.

Flapping wings, and a taut line do not go together,,,,

I would go with either wire mesh, chicken wire, or a 12 ga shotgun loaded with "dust", depending on the size of the birds.

Two different methods that I use; either a squirt of expanding foam insulation into the hole = wait for it to completely dry & break off any overflow, or

purchase a roll of plastic mesh 'gutter guard'. Cut what you need to block the entrance hole & either staple or nail into place.

My only nemesis now are the bloody starlings and the top of my chimney flue during the Spring/Summer nesting season. I've got a dicky knee & am not allowed to go onto my roof (medical insurance), so I need to get the chimney sweeper in to clean things out.

Skip the fake owl and plug the hole. If birds are getting in there, so are other vermin. Mice, bats, etc... Eventually, a raccoon will try and widen it for you, too. There's two kinds of expanding foam, too. One is for use in spaces like door jams, where it won't expand that much. The other is for wider gaps and expands quit a bit with some force. So be careful if you use the high expanding stuff, or you could force your siding, trim, etc... off the side of the house.

Great Stuff for gaps and cracks 0-1"
Great Stuff big gap filler for gaps larger than 1'.

That's called a cornice return . Usually they never have that big a gap. Also should have been flashed behind soffit material to stop water and ice dams from backing up into wood . Fill gap with backer rod . Then coat rod and fill rest of gap with clear silicon.:drink:

Fill the holes and spike mat.
