Bird, or anyone... (I just know Bird does/did tinker on these kind of things)

Years ago, I bought an oiless Campbell Hausfield compressor and with it, came a little box containing a 1/2" impact wrench as well as a chisel. Both branded Campbell Hausfield.

The compressor bit the dust so it was a good excuse to get an oiled compressor!!

Last night, wife comes home, wakes me up (asleep on the couch) and says I've got something for you, hold your hand out.

I sleepily hold my hand out and she about breaks it off when she puts this into it: 232TGSL 1/2" Super Duty

Seems she bought this for $90 at some kind of auction for one of the local hospitals (I think Childrens Hospital). Regardless... I think someone 'donated' it for the auction, it LOOKS brand new, has NO box, NO instructions and the model number and serial numbers, though present, look like the were engraved VERY lightly.

I'm simply wondering since I already HAVE an impact wrench, is this worthwhile to keep or is my Campbell Hausfield "just as good"?

I probably use an impact wrench once a year it seems? Maybeeeeee twice? Point being, it's not something that is of constant use.

Richard,
I'd take a Ingersol-Rand product over a Campbell Hausfield any day!! Just my opinion.......:D

$90 for that IR. She got taken. I'll do you a favor and buy it off of you for what she paid.:D

I don't know what your uses are, but there would almost be no comparison in the 2. I would be surprised if your little CH had 200 ft. lbs. of torque. I think once you start using that IR you'll see & feel and the difference. The CH will just be sitting on the shelf.

Yep, Richard, the other guys are telling you right. A new Campbell-Hausfeld will have 275 to 350 ft. lbs. of torque, an older one even less, while that IR is supposed to have 625 in reverse to break stuff loose and about 500 forward. Now it's one that's come out since I quit working on them, so I have no personal experience with that particular model, but I have no doubt it's a good one. A new Campbell-Hausfeld would now cost $35 to $45 dollars, and while IR claims a retail of over $300, you can buy that gun for about $200. So whatever you decide, I'd say your wife got a bargain.

Good to hear! (that someone will take it off my hands  )

It has a little yellow 'cover' on it printed with "Street Legal" and "Thunder Gun". Those comments come off to me as being REALLY gimmicky and at first (sleepy) glance, I was fearing it was a $15 disposable piece of junk.

Took a few minutes for my head to waken and see the "IR" printed on it to realize the brand.

I knew that IR would be a good brand, so I guess I'm more wondering about how it compares with my CH. I'll take these comments to heart and disappoint you all, by keeping it! :D

I guess I now need some reason to use it... anyone want to stop by and puncture one of my tires?

Oh, and I forgot to add this... seems the wife thought she was buying some kind of a DRILL. They were probably saying 'impact wrench' and she was hearing "hammer drill" (since it looks like the shape of a drill)

So, she wakes me up and is talking about this "drill" which of course, doesn't jive in my clouded brain, with what I'm seeing.

She really did wake me up and as everyone probably knows...sometimes it takes a minute for the clouds to clear out of the brain when that happens.

Add to my confusion the information that it was a DRILL yet my eyes said different didn't help. Oh, as well as "Honey, why on EARTH would you buy an air driven drill, when we already have a 1/2" corded drill and a 1/2" Milwaukee cordless hammer drill...???"

I guess she's a keeper.

(oh, and I will probably keep the impact wrench too! :p )

Be careful after using the CH gun you will wring a few off with the thunder gun.
