We've all snagged our lines and lost a lure or hooks when fishing. Earlier this week I took my dog swimming on a little spit of land between the road and the lake where people go to cool off or fish. I was looking out at the road when I noticed something hanging from the wire; I thought I knew what I saw but put on my glasses to confirm. I'm not sure just what happened but there's a very decayed bird tangled in the fish line, dangling upside down from the wire.
It made me think that I need to be more careful the next time that I snag my line in a tree.

Exactly why pretty much all plastic bags sooner or later should be banned IMO People releasing ballons up in the air can have the same horrible affect on wildlife.

We were always careful when fly fishing in the late afternoon. The cliff swallows would, at rare times, make a dive for the dry fly as you cast out.

I've had a few "cliff swallow hits". One catch. Fortunately the swallow was not hooked. Just being stubborn. He released before I had to decide what to do if I got him all the way in.

I am just not a proponent of banning products because people do the wrong thing. I understand your point of view but I am sick of people not being responsible for their actions. I am kinda lazy but I have not thrown trash out so it can't be that tough not to. I can't suggest not selling hot coffee because somebody is too stupid to know what to do with it for example. I guess my expectations are not realistic but I want people to be obligated through personal responsibility to do the right things. It's really not that hard.
Endless other examples exist.

Prof Marvel - I hear you and have similar feelings. I'm sick and tired of our society playing to the lowest common denominator. And, God knows, our legal system is not helping in the least. The slightest "oops" and they are Johnny-on-the-spot to help you sue for millions. Mediocracy is now the accepted norm.

People just no longer have any desire to take responsibility for their own actions or the results of their stupid decisions. And with the help of your "hired mouth piece" there is always somebody else to blame and pay.

Now that I think of it I suppose fishing lines are to birds what power lines are to manned aircraft.... flying along and getting snagged on something that doesn't break is a quick way to stop flying.

Though in this case I almost wonder if the bird wasn't going for the bait (either live or artificial) thinking it was an easy meal....

In all cases involving cliff swallows - they have dived directly at the dry fly. I'm sure they think it is a meal.

Discarded fishing line etc. is a bane to all wildlife...

On a side topic note...I have had cicadas commit suicide by flying directly into a spinning circular saw blade...!
