[EDIT: "Black" Heater?? Sheesh. Sorry 'bout that but I guess I can't edit the thread title]

Hard to imagine that I'll ever need a block heater when there's been so much HOT weather this summer, but I figure it's just possible that it may cool off come winter. :)

Focusing in on a 1648 and wondering just what a block heater looks like and how it performs for that model? Also, I assume that it's something that would be fairly easy for a dealer to install? Any idea how much that would cost?

I am assuming your oil filter is on the right side of the tractor towards the back of the engine? Look above the oil filter, see that frost plug?

Will attach a pic of our 1635 block heater in a bit.

They work great, only needs an hour on the coldest days. But will give a bit longer on the real cold days. The 1600 series start so well, you could get away with less.

Appreciate the input, Will. I'd gladly take a look at the tractor as you point out-- but I haven't closed the deal yet and am thusly tratorless (at least as far as Massey is concerned). :)

Somehow I got the impression that the MF block heaters were a bit more complex and more along the lines of a factory install of some kind. If that's not the case then it wouldn't seem anything to be much concerned about as I get close to taking possession.

Pics would be great!

Here you go. Ask the dealer to install it as part of the deal, that is what we did. They have to drain the cooling system to put it in.

Directly above the oil filter, on the right side, towards the back of the engine.

Great-- I figure that by seeing your pics + info-- I am now an expert in MF block heaters and qualified to haggle with dealer to get them to install this thing! :D

Install should run between $50-$100, and that includes the cost of the heater.

Good luck.
