I bought a Black Jack tire repair kit a couple years back for $50.00. It comes with case, plug needle, reamer and plugs. Seemed like a nice rugged kit and had gotten good reviews. I've used it a few times with good results until recently when the needle broke trying install a plug on a tire. The needle holds the plug in place for insertion into the tire. I called Black Jack to see if they'd warranty the replaceable needle. The case has a space for replaceable needles, but no replacements are included. I was given a hard time because I didn't purchase the kit direct from them. They would not warranty it after talking me in circles, including speaking with a supervisor. They then said they'd happily send me a replacement needle for $2.89. Frustrated at this point, I said don't bother, but I'd happily post my experience regarding their customer service online. They speak about quality and customer satisfaction, but for a $50 kit which is useless without the needle you'd think they'd be a bit more understanding in warranty of a $2.89 item. As I'm typing this I got a call back from Black Jack offering to now send me 2 replacement needles at no charge????! I'll take em, but sorry Black Jack too little too late!

I've had very good luck using this type plug gun. I've had this model for about 20 years now and it still works great. Replacement plugs are available at NAPA and other auto parts stores. Amazon has this on sale for $43.60 with free shipping. I never had any luck using the type of kit you use. I tried many times and they always leaked. O'Rielly, NAPA, and Gemplers (and I'm sure others) also sell this style plug gun.

I've used regular plugs in the past to fix punctures and have had good luck with them but for the past few years I've taken to using the tube which incorporate both a patch and a plug all in one. I buy mine at Princess auto for about $5 for two and I use some tire cement as lube on the stem to help install it in addition to the normal amount used on the patch part.

The reason I went to these is described in this pic.

It does help that I have a manual tire machine which uses an air cylinder to break the bead.

The two replacement needles came in the other day, hopefully they'll work out better.
