Black Mouth Cur

I believe that our rescue dog, MF Jones, may be a Black Mouth Cur. I was surfing the net last weekend when I came across this breed of dog. After reading all the info and looking at images, it fits him to a tee. He has really bonded to us and is loyal and super protective of us, especially my wife. Sometimes a bit more protective than necessary.

Does anybody here have any experience with these dogs?

I've had a couple of them. I've used them and my catahoulas on cattle and hogs. BMCs are good hard working dogs and also good around the family but strangers are not welcome. You won't have anyone or anything sneaking around outside. The book Ole Yellar had a BMC in it.

I agree, nice looking dog! :thumbsup: Long legged, too. He's lucky that his previous owner had the guts to admit they couldn't keep him.

Good lookin' dog! My son who is a working cowboy has two of them, one male, one female. He uses them on cattle daily and they are a hoot to watch them work. The male is bigger, works and is ready to hang in the shade when work is done. The female however, will work cattle all day, come home and want to play. Just never runs out of gas. The male got bit by a rattlesnake on his hind foot last winter but has recovered quite well. I think you will enjoy him.
