Never used it but have been using Natural Lube for quite a few years now and can get 6-8 shots off before needing a patch.
Like to know how you like it.

I never was able to get any Blackhorn 209, BUT i bought and test out some Black Mag 3 powder today and was quite impressed. It was advertised as clean burning, easy clean up (pretty much the same as the Blackhorn 209)..

Here is the Black Mag website Welcome to the official BlackMag website

here is my field test

I finally got a chance to try out the Black Mag ‘3 (BM3) powder today.. For the most part it lives up to its name. I shot about 10 times before it got too late and was very impressed with how clean burning it was.

Equipment – Thompson Center Triumph, Nikon ProStaff scope, Hornady .45 XTP’s w/ T/C Super Slide sabots, 90 grs of BM3

Pros –

Very clean burning – Looking down the barrel after a shot it looks just like a little ash in the barrel.

Easy cleaning – I used T/C Bore Butter on a .45 wire brush and pulled it thru once (I was using an Otis cable) and the patch came out just slightly dirty-grey looking. Then I ran a dry patch thru one time. This left the barrel exceptionally clean and the dry patch was hardly even discolored. Since I was trying to get it sighted in I decided to clean between each shot.

Easy breach plug removal - I removed the breech plug every time I cleaned the barrel. The breach plug was easily removed and replace with just my fingers.

Cons –

Crud ring – I was using Remington Kleanbore 209 primers and they left a significant crud ring. BUT it was easily cleaned off with a jag and some T/C bore cleaner (the Bore Butter would not cut it loose).

The follow up second shot – You could get it loaded, but it was very hard to get it in due to the crud ring. Otherwise loading was quite easy (at least for a first muzzleloader shooter). After the second shot the crud ring was even more difficult to remove. I doubt I could have loaded a third shot.

Does any one know if all 209 primers leave a crud ring?? Any suggestions for other primers that may not leave such a crud ring?

If you didn’t have the crud ring you could practically shoot all day without having to clean the barrel..

I think I am going to try a .50 brush (The .45 brush was recommended by EABCO) because the .45 pulled thru very easily.
