John Deere Model A
Hi all, :)
I am new to this forum, so I may not know my around it just yet, sorry if this is in the wrong category. :ashamed: Anyways, my neighbor has a blade on his 1942? John Deere Model A that is a really neat piece of equipment. But he wont sell it, so I was wondering if any of you may know of someone who has one that they would be willing to sell. I believe he said it was called a buckman blade, but im not sure. Even if the blade is still attached to a tractor, and they want to sell the tractor with it, i may consider it. Thank you and have a great day!!

P.S. Actually any implements for these old tractors would be great to have! :p

I know of a couple of options Deere had for tractors of this era. There was a 3 point hitch that had 4 arms that would work with mounted implements. The top links went to a tie bar that had a hole where you could pin it to the mounted implement. Not like the ball on today's 3 points. These had a lot of lost motion and would work but not great. I think they were called an 801 hitch but could be wrong.

The other option was a Yakima hitch. I have heard this was used before the 3 points because Fordson had the Patten on the 3 point. The Yakima was kind of like the quick attach hitches you can get today except that it hooked at two points on each sided and did not use a top link. There was a top link that was used for heavy implements that was only about a foot long. It moved with the hitch. All of this worked off of the rock shaft and had two links that went to each side of the draw bar frame.
Implements for the Yakama were specialized for that hitch system. I have a box blade, subsoil plow and a couple of plows for my 51A. I heard that these were to be recalled and replaced with the 3 point I first talked about. They are hard to find with all the needed links.

I think the Yakama plant was in Yakama Washington and did the conversions for the Lindeman (sp) crawlers. I have been out of the hobby for a long time and my re-memory is not too good with out looking a bunch of stuff up.
