I need to take the blades off my RD6000 finish mower for the first time, to get them sharpened. I took the covers off and started looking at the access to the blades. The mower manual shows a 'spindle wrench' that engages two bolt heads on top of each pulley. There are also a couple of through-holes in each pulley, so I thought I'd drill a couple of holes in a 2x6 and drop a couple of long bolts down through to hold the pulley from turning while I loosened the cap screw in the end of the spindle. That was, until I realized I couldn't get at the center pulley with anything that thick.

Anybody with one of these mowers have a clever trick for holding the pulleys in place? I'm hoping that this is much easier than I'm making it out to be /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

(BTW, the 6' and 7' models use a different means to hold the blades in place that doesn't look to require that the pulley be secured).

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
