James I agree bleeding the filter is a PITA but with that method you always run the risk of getting contaminants past the filter and plugging up the very small ports in the injector nozzles, if you just install dry with a new filter then bleed with the air setting removing the hose from the air port it works every time and all of the fuel has to go through the filter so no worries about contamination. With your method you might be able to only pour the fresh diesel around the outside of the filter while filling it and it would lessen the chance of contamination since the diesel has to go through it.
