Need to bolt a bracket to the back of my tractor seat but can't get to the inside as I can't figure out how to get it apart. It one of the after market seats with the little arms you see everywhear.

Anyone know either how to get the seat apart or a blind nut I can install from the outside. I have a blind nut kit that is kinda like a pop rivet thing but the metal on the seat is too thick for it to work properly.

Any ideas????

Bob,
Try a well nut or jack nut. I have seen them as deep as an inch or more. I doubt if you want to order from this place as they have a $50 minimum, but this gives you and idea of what they are. Then just do a google search for Well Nut

what are you mounting to the seat? if it's not too heavy try a hollow wall anchor- available at most hardware or home improvement stores. the only problem is that there will be a screw sticking into the seat. If you can live with that- this may be the answer

Thanks for the tips gang. Toggle bolt won't work but a good idea. Here is the back of the seat. Going to mouny my quick disconects to a bracket I made that needs to bolt to the back. Going to put two on each side, one side for the new top link and the other for whatever I think of in the future. Maybe a tilt cylinder..

Here is another picture of the seat showing what is behind the back plate. The metal is pretty heavy gage and will work out great but can't figure how in the world they were able to put the thing together.

Thanks Inspector, Looks like either a jack or well nut would work. Could even counter bore my bracket to enclose the head so the bracket will sit flush on the seat back.

What I have are kinda like metal well nuts but they aren't long enough. Wonder if Lowes carries these things. Think they have an internet site, will check...

Nope, struck out on Lowes web site, Oh well...

Lowes and Home Depot may have them. I have seen them in the hardware dept in the small drawers where small parts are kept. Lowe's website is terrible on finding items you want. I looked and searched for 2 hours trying to see if they still stocked a twist lock type of photocell. No luck on the website. Finally swung in the store the next day, had 2 dozen os them, 120V and 277V. So you may want to go ahead and check the store.

A hardware store with a good assortment of the small parts drawers should have them. Also check with a NAPA store. If you are really desperate a Harley dealer can get them but most counter jocks will have to scratch their heads until they can find an model that uses them (hint: '92 FXR side cover.)

There is something called a 'riv-nut' that you could use if you don't need great strength.

As the name implies, it is a combination between a nut and a rivet. It takes an installation tool similar to a pop rivet gun.
