"Houston, we have touchdown."

Yesterday we got lucky. We made our first block.

Harve,

That's a grand example of "thinking outside of the 'bottle'".

I wonder if the large, international producers and distributors of the plastic water bottles (like Coke) would be interested in funding a project. It would certainly be boost to their environmental and humanitarian images.

Really love the idea. I also like how the wire is used. I can see these being used like
Gabion Box, Gabion,Gabions,Gabion Factory,Gaion Box,Gabion Basket,Wire Mesh Mattress,Gabion Cages ,Find following gabion products with gabion.us: Supplied from the site of Rock Gabion Co.
If they were put into this box, you can use the chicken wire to plaster over.
Very nice idea, impressive journey too from idea to product.

I've loved Gabion constructed ever since I was introduced to it.

I just updated the website. Today I took a block and drove my little Texas pickup onto it. The block deformed. Backed off the block and it was a good as new. Probably a four thousand pound test and it failed or passed, depending upon how you look at it.

I'm now going to concentrate on building blocks to build a building.

I can see tremendous applications for recycling here, beyond the "construction" idea. A hydraulic cylinder would get the compression you need. Also a little heat applied would "soften" up most of the material and may even make it self bonding.

That's the reason for my going open source. I wanted anyone who was interested in doing something with it to only be limited by their own energy and imagination.

I've concentrated on doing it the most basic and most simple way I can see it being done. I've known all along those much smarter than me would take it places I never could.

When I first started this I assumed it would never be embraced by the status quo in the States. But the more I get involved with it the more I see it as a viable building method.

Tomorrow we'll weigh the front axle of the welding truck. Then we'll put the front two tires on steel plates on top of two plastic blocks to see how they hold up. The distortion today was caused from the pressure not being spread out over the whole block. The steel plates will spread the weight evenly across the face of the block.

I would guess that the weight put on the block today was four thousand pounds or more.
