Ferguson tea20
I have a 53 Ferguson tea20 that I can't seem to get running properly.it as a miss and surges at high throttle. A mechanic friend of mine came over and we took the valve cover off to adjust the tappits.when he took the tube off he said there's something I have never seen before, there is a small ball bearing in the manifold where the tube inserts.he left it in when we put it back together.anyway tractor still not running good.today I bushogged my pasture ,took little over an hour .I have to hold the throttle on full ,if I let it go it returns to half throttle. After I was done I did a compression test while it was still hot cylinder #1is dry100.5. wet 110 ,#2 dry 106, wet119 #3dry 98.5 wet 106 and #4 dry112 wet121. Anybody have any ideas I,d love to hear them I ave done a complete tune up ,new wires cap points rotor condenser.

When you hold the throttle open does it run correctly? There is a spring on the throttle linkage that pushes against a plate and held in place by a spring clamp. Loosen the spring clamp and slide it closer to the plate to add pressure to the spring. This should help throttle lever to hold position.

There is a cork friction disk behind that plate that may be worn or missing. If adjusting doesn’t hold it may need to be replaced.

No it still has a miss when I hold it open. I'm going to take the breather off and clean it out real good and try adjusting that spring.the throttle handle will stay wide open when it's not running, just springs back when running.

Sounds to me like it's time to rebuild the engine. Could be burned valves or bad rings (worn) or a number of other issues. Does it use oil?

If it is a miss then you need to find out which cylinder is missing. This can be done by pulling one plug wire off at a time to see if it is worse or stays the same. When you detect no change in engine that is the miss firing one. Then a close inspection of plug, wire and distributor cap is in order.

That's what I'd do. Pull plug wires until you find the miss, then replace that plug wire and caps and plug to see if that fixes the miss. Surprisngly often it is old plug wire or cap from the old days when they used carbon fiber spark plug leads and caps to cut down on interference with old radios. They break down internally. Get good copper wire and metal caps.

No doesn't use oil,no smoke no leaks.oil stays quite clean I would say.
