Like a lot of attachments I've been wondering how one of these would work on the Toolcat. I don't have a pressing need for one but figured I would keep my eye out and if one could be had for a reasonable price I would get it. Well, a recent thread sparked my interest and as luck would have it I found one that appears to be in pretty good shape at a reasonable price so I bought it. Should have it home this weekend and will give it a try on gravel lanes. Will post my impression after I have a chance to try it out.

I haven't used the box scraper but I did try out a "roadrunner". It's a bit big at 7' wide and heavy at 1200lbs., but the toolcat handled it fine for grading my road up and downhill. If it was only 6' wide, it would be better, however. I imagine the boxscraper, if it has the wheels out front, will be good.

I am getting the box scraper which has no wheels/hydraulics. The box blade has the wheels and may work a little better. At 68 inches the box scraper will cover the Toolcat tracks but will require more than one pass to dress the road.

Not sure where you're located but there is a non-laser box blade for sale on eBay right now. Looks to be in pretty good condition and reasonably priced as attachments go.

jmf,

There are photos (not the best) of the box blade and box scraper on Bobcat's website. I will get some of the box scraper from different angles this weekend.

I have the one without hydraulic tilt though I wish I had bought the tilt unit just to save the time of getting out of the cab but you only have to adjust it a couple of times on a new road and I don't even adjust it on an existing road once it's set, I leave it for the entire road grade.

Got the scraper home. Unit is in nice condition. Was a rental at a Bobcat dealer and doesn't appear to have much time on it.

These units have two cutting edges for each direction of travel. The edge used while traveling forward is rigid. The rear edge swings back while traveling forward. When traveling in reverse the rear edge swings down to stops.

There are adjustable skid skis on each side designed to provide depth control. These are basically 1/2" steel plates with 3 slots per ski. You can adjust them so the cutting edges do not contact the surface all the way up until the cutting edges hang below a few inches. I found the skiis for the most part to be of no use. The unit weighs 665lbs and once the cutting edge begins digging the skiis sink as if they are not there. I will either weld a set of feet on the existing skiis or have another pair made with a decent size foot.

If you use the attachment like most attachments, i.e. boom in float and use bucket curl to control depth, the sides of the box are up in the air so you basically have only a cutting edge working. With the boom in float and the scraper tilted level it will immediately sink and stop the TC.

I will post more as I make modifications and get more time with it.
