Bobcat CT230 / CK30 Front Axle

Hi,

I own a CT230 (Kioti - CK30 in white). I am getting ready to do the 50 hr service before it freezes up.

In the manual it says the front axle capacity is 4.5L each. Does this mean the entire axle holds 9L? There are two drain plugs but only one fill plug

Any ideas? I need to go to town to get the oil and want to make sure I get it all before I start.

As I recall, I put a bit less than a gallon and a half of 80/90 gear oil in
my Kioti (which has 2 filler caps, two drains, and one sight glass). It
takes a while for it all to get distributed. Kioti put clear hyd oil in mine
when new, but recommends gear oil.

I see the entry that says "4.75 qt each". Strange. I think you will see how
much comes out if you use a pan. I will bet that it is hyd oil. 80W/90
is specced (p. SPEC9) as with the Kioti.

When I changed mine I put in about four liters and it put it half way in the sight glass, then after I used it once I put in about another half liter or so to top it up.

You could probably find this in past posts, but after you fill it up to half of the sight glass, drive it around a few hundred yards and you'll see it needs more as Steve mentioned. There must be air pockets that will fill after driving. This seems to happen to almost everyone. My CK30hst had hydro fluid when new and I used 80/90 for the refill as stated in my manual.

Very true. I was adding oil to my tractor's axle for months after the change.
It will be more of an issue with the Bobcat as they have eliminated the fill
hole on the right side. So all your gear oil has to make it thru the diff to
the right axle. That means you need to seriously OVERfill the left side.

50 hr service is done now. Engine oil change was easy and clean. Hydrostatic/differential was easy too. Time consuming with the large amounts of oil to deal with. The front diff did take ~ 4.5L of gear oil. It was a pain in the butt as it was low...then add...then drive...then add...then drive...then too full...then drain a bit...then drive...then too low...then add...then finally good. PITA that was. Hard to judge what stays in the cavities that will never drain out.

Done and good for winter now! Thanks for the info.
