I've seen this guy near the house recently. He's no more timid than the deer, he just slinks out of sight quickly when I open the door unexpectedly. My three prior sightings and this photo were all in the daytime.
I finally saw him far enough away that I had enough time to reach for the camera. I think all sightings were the same critter but I'm not sure - what I saw behind the barn looked slightly smaller than a coyote but this guy looked a lot larger and heavier than a coyote as I watched him move.
He's out some 150 yards so this isn't the greatest photo. He was already working his way toward cover by the time I got the pictures.
Location: an hour north of San Francisco; 10 miles from the ocean.
