I own 14 acres of mostly Privet, vines and other undesirables. Correction, I did own 14 acres of such. After this weekend I will have put a large dent in that total. I rented a bobcat with a heavy duty brush cutter and laid into it. I am pretty excited about the outcome, but is it far from finished, Unfortunately it rained the night before I started and the ground got pretty soggy. It wasn't awful but the Bobcat definitely lefts it痴 mark. That combined with all of the pieces of brush/small trees that this thing torn up are strewn across 5 or 6 acres. What next? I figured I would let it dry out a little bit then use my tractor to clean it up. What do y誕ll recommend? Here are some pictures. KIMG1562.JPGKIMG1565.JPGKIMG1563.JPGKIMG1564.JPG

I have had success with a spring-protected Field Cultivator for cleanup. Everythingattachments.com is not far from you.

Hmmm, yeah the dirt dog looks like it might work! I am wanting to turn portions of this into food plot as well so it could be double duty. I'm thinking a dirt dog and some sort of drag harrow might get that pretty nice.

What about one of these?
LS-SCARIFIER-5T.jpg

They are $3 or 400 less expensive. Or what about a box blade with the teeth all the way down?

Leave it on the ground and toss out some grass seed. In a year, all you will see is the grass.

When you where using the brush cutter, did you plan on how you would use your tractor to maintain the area so it doesn't all grow back?

My neighbor has had guys out to his place three different times to clear areas of his land. He never maintains those areas because he can't get his tractor and 15 foot batwing in between all the remaining trees. I suggested that he remove the trees right away so that he can mow and keep it under control, but he does what he wants and in two of the areas that he's had shredded, it's thicker now then when they went in there. The third area was done last year, and it's coming back already.

I definitely have some more small trees I want to remove. Those I will more than likely uproot with the tractor so I don't have to deal with those little stumps. Once I accomplish that I should be able to pretty easily get in there with my tractor and bush hog. I am also looking at getting one of those wick herbicide applicators for my tractor bucket. I understand that privet and vines are rather aggressive and I will have to stay on top of it. I think the first few years will be the worst. Any advice?

It is possible that the components for a Dirt Dog F/C and a Fred Cain F/C come out of the same asian factory. Unless you need a 66"/5-tine as I did, it will probably be easier for you to order the Fred Cain brand from everytfhingattachments.com.

What about a box blade with the teeth all the way down?

If you read through the LINKS I provided you will discover that five Box Blade rippers pull several times as hard as five spring-protected, parabolic F/C tines.

Box Blade penetrates 6'.
F/C penetrates from O to 14" if you have enough tractor weight and 4-WD.

What about one of these?

Same as Box Blade rippers WITHOUT THE BOX.

I've never seen privet, but I've heard it's a nightmare to deal with. I'm a huge fan of chemicals and would search for something that works on privet. One thing that I've found on my land is that once the trees are removed, and the shade is gone, a lot of plants like poison ivy go away. Here, too much sun will kill off a lot of plants.
