I see in the L48 Kubota brochure that they are no longer using the SAE method of measuring the loader capabilities. Hmm, maybe they don't want it compared apples to apples to the L35!

Kubota's no more guilty of this than other companies but it would be nice to see some consistency at least between models.

Some time ago all the colors went back to gross hp, another joke. We've discussed this before on this board, you know, gross hp is the theoretical power of the explosion in the chamber etc. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I know their intent is to sell tractors and make it difficult (I guess) to easily compare JD NH KU etc etc. Backhoes and loaders are rated all kinds of ways. Lift at the pin, (is the bucket on?). Breakout force, is that stopped or at 10mph? The SAE standards were fairly exact I think, so there could be some consistancy.

Del, you have totally lost me. Breakout force, mph? Breakout force has nothing to do with speed. Are you familiar with bucket curl? The L48 has a lift capacity of 1150 KG thus the loader model number of LA 1150 just as all the other loaders Kubota sells do. This is the load at max. height at bucket bottom at the midpoint. Just as the brochure clearly details. It also gives the load lift at the pivot point which is 3000lbs, very usefull information since it comes with quickattach options that allow forks and other options that will have different weights and midpoints. I often use a chain at something less then the pivot point to pull fence posts out of the ground. The LA 852 found on the L 4610 lifts 850 KG at the same location at the same height etc. All the specs I have seen from Kubota show both engine gross HP as well as net HP as well as PTO HP. So whats the peave about, its all there, perhaps its the old L35 brochure that has either chosen to eliminate or add information, all the others are uniform and I don't find misleading at all. I know that the L35 is nice, but think about it, look at the displacement of the motors, the weights, and the sheer size difference of the two and your right, about the apples to apples analogy, the L35 is a lil ol granny smith and the L48 is a golden delicious, I'll take the L48 and its extra added bonus of HST and much greater lift capacity. The front axle alone not to mention the frame is much larger then the L35. Also, I've always understood gross HP to be that at the flywheel. Since very few folks simply use just the flywheel it will always be reduced by the time it gets to a rear end, a PTO, a pump, generator etc, friction takes its toll. I take no offense to gross HP, notice they also include the net pto hp if you have HST versus gears. Rat...
