bolens g152
Hi every body. I was wondering if somebody can help me. I have a Bolens G152 with a front end loader on it, but it is very slow and if you have the three point hitch raised up with any weight on it the bucket won't go up or down. It uses the same hydraulics as the three point hitch, which uses 90 weight gear oil I read in the manual that the pump on the tractor is made to use that thick of a oil. I don't see how you could get any kind of speed out of a hydraulic cylinder with that type of oil if anybody had any advice I would appreciate it thanks. I was also think about putting a second pump on the front PTO shaft to just run the front end loader.

Hydraulics:
Type: open center
Pressure: 1850 psi [127.6 bar]
Pump flow: 3 gpm [

You don't have to work with, but if the relief is actually at 1850 psi, you are doing all you can.

In an open center hyd system, the pump flow passes through all valves to tank.

If you use any other valve downstream, you cause back pressure and it will cause trouble with the upstream valves.

Essentially, the 3pt with lever fully raised, you are producing a back pressure and that is working against the pump flow.

Just use the valves independent of each other and check the relief pressure for specs.

You could add another pump if you have the HP to run another pump.

You only have 15 HP, and to add even a 5 GPM pump at 2500 psi would require about 8.1 HP.

thanks for the reply J J how would I check the relief pressure . The front end loader does work like it should. When the three point hitch is down, but it is very slow. I did not know if this was caused due to the 90 weight gear oil being used as hydraulic fluid because I've never seen that heavy of weight oil using a hydraulic system. I also didn't know if maybe I had a bad valve because if I am raising the bucket and pull the handle back to for it will stop going up any other advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks one other thing I forgot to ask if I mounted a second pump on the front would it drawl any of the engine horsepower down when I wasn't using the front end loader. Thanks again for all your help

Your HP is only used when something is doing work like a cyl or a hyd motor.

Your engine maybe turning all your pumps, but very little HP is being used.

If your pump is powering a cyl at 3GPM, and 1850 psi, then it is using about 3.6 HP

Do you have a separate pump for the attachments?

Install a hyd gauge in a tee in the IN port of the FEL valve.

Thanks for the reply no it has one pump on it the FEL is tee in to the hard line going to the 3 point hitch. I will try to get a gauge on it tonight. If I do go with a second pump what size would you recommend. thanks

You could run a PTO pump or a fan belt pump.

The pump 5 GPM mentioned above would work.

My Power-Trac 1445 uses a fan belt driven 3 GPM pump at 3000 psi for the FEL, and does what it is supposed to do.

Does your tractor have hydrostatic transmission.

No it is gear drive, I have a front pto shaft that is connected to the front of the engine. I believe to the crank shaft that I don't use I could directly mount a pump to it with a coupler or mount a pulley in V-belt. I am thinking that is the way I might go. I would also like to put a new control valve in I wanted to get one of the joystick style when I just need one with an open center And does the valve have to match the pumps gmp thanks.

Valve should match the pump GPM, or close enough.

Find a bracket and Lovejoy coupling and match the shafts.

Right now the FEL cylinders are using the gear case oil witch is 90w I would like to go to a regular hydraulic oil will this have any effect on the cylinders and if I go with a 5 gallon per minute pump should a 5 gallon reservoir be enough. Thanks

Yes, a 5 gal reservoir would work, and 10W-30 motor oil or ATF, or hyd fluid.

The new system would be independent of any other oil.
