Bolens G192 (Iseki TS1910)
I have a Bolens G192 that sat for approximately 10 years in a barn. It only has 412 hours! With just a little TLC it is running great and I have managed to un-stick the clutch with a putty knife. However, it seems to be stuck in the Medium speed on the auxiliary speed change lever. I have tried a gentle coercing with a hammer but that didn't work. I also haven't been able to get it into 3rd gear. Is there any way you know to free up the lever so I can shift into the high range?

I had a tiller that locked up one time. Tried every thing to get it to move and was just about to give up and scrap it. Then took some penetration (PB blaster I think) oil with the small spray tube and sprayed it all in and around affected gears. After letting it sit a while it popped free with some wiggling and pressure and movement of tiller. You would want to do a fluid change asap afterword if it works. Not sure if this is a good idea or if it would work for you but as last resort maybe worth a try.

Not being familiar with your tractor, does the speed change lever have linkage or does it go right into the gear box? If there is external linkage check to see if that is frozen or if it goes directly into the gear case move the tractor around for a while and maybe the movement of the gears will free it up, try moving the lever when you moving the tractor, only do this if you are on flat ground and applying little power to keep it moving.

I have a G194 so am curious if you solved your problem with the range lever on your G192.

In case mine ever acts up I'll have a place to start looking.

Thanks
Rich

New to this forum, came across this post looking for clues because I just bought a 1983 Bolens G244, amazing the advances made since my last tractor, a 1954 TEA20, and its got a bucket. Only real problem so far, the range lever (goes directly into gearbox) isn't just stuck, it's broken off, with speed most probably in high because it does go fast. Previous owner probably tried to coerce it ungently with a hammer or a pipe extender. I recognize the temptation to take this approach. I've got all gears but only two speeds - high and 4wd creep, probably would have been quite happy for it to be stuck in medium, unless someone has another suggestion I'm going to live with it until I have to pull the gearbox, which not being able to get into third would probably be enough incentive.
