my hydro fluid has not been changed since I bought tractor (6 years maybe) and my hydro system is acting a little weird especially at startup. I got the filters bit what type of oil should I use and how much should I buy? I like Amsoil brand oils on my motorcycles would there tractor hydraulic be a good match?

I suppose that you could. 10W30 or 10W40 motor oil I think what was in it originally.

Are you sure? I don't think that's what was in mine originally.

I would research this better, because I can't remember what I put in mine when I last changed it, it's been a long time ago but I know it wasn't motor oil, that it called for...

Manual says bolens oil part 1738157 or mobil 423 or amoco 1000 or Texaco TDH.

Thos are all no longer made lol.

Perhaps a call or internet search for Bolens may give you the answer.

Mobil 423 has been replaced with Mobil 424 which is still made.

If I'm correct , you have an Eaton 11 transaxle. If so the XI Toro's had an Eaton 11 and we filled them w/ 10w30, though 10w 40 was allowed. That was Toro's instructions anyways. Eaton used to have a decent service website. Lots of L&G transaxles take motor oil instead of hydraulic oil.
