- Bolens Iseki G174 TX1500f 2-Cylinder Diesel
So i'm looking for some advise. My wife and I recently Inherited a Bolens Iseki G174 TX1500F Tractor from her late father. We are working on restoring it to use. I has the front loader so its pretty useful. We started using it last summer in 2wd and got stuck here and there and had to use the 4x4. But when I engaged the 4x4 it would work but would clunk, so I stopped using the 4x4 until I could take a look and the problem. Well after taking the front axle apart, it looks pretty bad. The C-Clip on the Pinion shaft failed. So the Pinion gear/shaft could freely move in and out. It was basically milling the center section of the differential and grinding the metal bits to pieces. The teeth are worn pretty bad on the ring & pinion gears, and the bearings sound pretty crunchy. I did a little research and the ring and pinion gears are very hard to come by. So I don't know if I want to try to grind/polish what is left and see if it will work for emergency use only? The gears do mesh and turn. With a new clip it should hold in the same place and not pull to the center. But with the teeth so badly worn its just a matter of time before they strip and break. The thing is it will always be turning if its gear or not in gear (there is no differential disengage). All the teeth are there but 1 spot is worn pretty bad. Its toast anyways right? It might be worth trying? Worst case is it breaks more teeth and I can pull the pinion gear and drive shaft to make it 2wd.
