My BX25D's FEL joystick was getting sloppy so I took off the boot and the plastic housing and lo and behold, the nut that holds the joystick to the hydro linkage was missing. Based on the size of the bolt for the plastic housing and comparing that to the threaded part which is captive to the linkage I assumed it was the same and toddled off to the hardware store for a nylock nut. Sized the housing bolt and it was 8mm so I grabbed an 8mm nylock nut and toddled back home. Long story short the nut doesn't fit the linkage bolt...anyone know the real size? I may have to go to the dealer but the hardware store is much closer...

8 mm is almost equal to 5/16. Fine, coarse ? at least 3 diff. metric pitches ---Trevor

It is a fine threaded bolt...maybe I'll try a 5/16...thanks

I think it is likely a metric bolt. As tjcaruy said make sure you have the correct thread pitch. I think 8mm comes in 1 mm(fine) and 1.25 mm(coarse) pitch. The next standard metric bolts are 7 mm(coarse thread only) and 10 mm(coarse, fine & very fine threads) diameters. Perhaps you just got the wrong thread pitch bolt.

My guess it's a fractional size like 5/16 X 24.
Kubota loaders are USA made,right?
Good Luck!

If you can't figure it out you should be able to take the bolt to your local Fastenal (or equivalent) and they should be able to measure the bolt and TPI and get you a suitable replacement.

Here is the parts list. If you need to replace item 060 it is probably special, the nut should be standard SAE or metric. I have found both metric and SAE sizing on the FEL stuff. As mentioned earlier take the bolt to the store and match up a nut.

Was at the Kubota dealer (had to go to Lowe's for ice melt and it's right next door)...took the parts guy a bit to come up with the correct diagram but in the end it IS a 5/16 nut. He gave me a handful to try in different configurations with flat and lock washers for free. I also bought the "rod end" which the nut had fallen off from and that was $20.00! I wasn't sure if I had buggered the threads by forcing the 8mm nut on. I took it apart today and the new 5/16 nut went on slicker than snot...The parts guy said if I didn't need it he would refund my $20. So I have spare 5/16 nuts and a "rod end" to return.
Life is good and my sloppy FEL joystick is now tighter than ever and working as it should!
Yesterdays storm left me with a half inch of solid ice on my driveway...put down about 6 bags of ice melt and the warm day today let the magnesium chloride stuff do it's melting work and the ice got all punky...enough to scrape it all up with the BX! What a work/back saver!

Thanks for the diagram but the part that the nut fell off of was a "tie rod end" which is not really visible in that particular diagram that I can see anyway. When the parts guy brought up the correct diagram, there it was bigger than life. The "bolt" was captive in the tie rod end so I couldn't take it with me unless I took the linkage apart further...all is well as the parts guy found the correct diagram and the nuts were 5/16 SAE. See my previous post.
