Admittedly, I use the 6 ft 673 rototiller on my 4120 to do my fields and it does a GREAT job.

But, bolts keep shaking loose all over the place. I was thinking of using locktight but wanted to check the hivemind/braintrust here first. Any ideas or similar experience?

Thanks, Robert

You could use the blue or red loc-tite. If you use the red you might have to heat the nut to get it loose. You could use self-locking nuts.

I used the squeezed-together type lock nuts with Loc-Tite and that was the end of it. Can't recall if blue or red--sorry. Also had to use the heavy duty click pins since the others kept shaking off. I think on some bolts I just used the Loc-Tite by itself. Once I got them to stay put they never loosened again after that.

Not sure what u mean?? squeezed-together type lock nuts. Doesnt sound like the ones with nylon centers.

Will a JAM NUT work? Are the bolts long enough to accommodate one? Sounds easier than either replacing them with lock nuts or lock tite-ing all of them.

I run a Maschio 58" tiller behind my JD 3320 and had problems with the mounting bolts on the gearbox backing out. I used new bolts with the blue loctite on them and have not had anymore issues.

It's not the nylon ones. They make a lock nut that is flat on one end and somewhat squeezed together on the other. It starts to go on easy and by the time it threads on all the way the squeezed together portion goes harder. They usually stay put on their own and LocTite really makes it work. Nylon nuts are supposed to be one-time use and not always effective.

I found this on the net...( and never knew what they were called). They are a common hardware item.

Elliptical offset nuts

Elliptical offset nuts, also known as oval locknuts[1] or non-slotted hex locknuts,[3] is a nut that has been deformed at one end so that the threads are no longer perfectly circular. The deformed end is usually shaped into an ellipse or obround triangle. The nut is easily started on the male fastener as the bottom portion is not deformed. As the male fastener reaches the deformed section it deforms the threads of the nut elastically back into a circle. This action increases the friction between the nut and the fastener greatly and creates the locking action. Due to the elastic nature of the deformation the nuts can be reused indefinitely.[2]

Nice! Thanks. Gotta love this place.

common description is "torque" lock nuts, in the Deere world anyways.
