I use to have a couple of those and they worked great. Cost of kerosene was the problem. My wife has asthma and they really bothered her if I did not get No1 kerosene and around here the only way to get that is at a box store. Very expensive. We have a electric fireplace but the heater needs to be fixed so that is probably the plan. It will heat for about 30 seconds and it seems like it will put off some good heat if that was fixed. I also was thinking about some oil filled radiator heaters for support.

The generator handles the A/C window units if I just run the main room and the bedroom. That is more important for me because I have MS.
Was wondering how those affected people with respiratory problems given that they're unvented.
Is your generator a whole house unit on a transfer switch? Maybe get it rewired so only essential rooms are on it so the generator will handle it. Probably not a DIY project unless you're an electrician though.

I do have it wired into the breaker box but only turn on the breakers we need. In the case of last night just the heater. Only 1 of the two breakers for the heater. The problem is that my Generator is a cheap Chinese model that works surprisingly well. I use it all the time to run my Welder and have not had a issue. I should get a better quality unit but it has worked pretty good for most of my needs. Starts very easily. I only paid $600. Lol

I'm not even going to get the 'Cat out in this bitter cold 'cus in 5 days it will be in the 40's F. When we get to mittens weather, I become real tolerant on snow on the driveway. It takes a long time for that metal steering wheel knob to warm up too.

After walking the pooch in that wind, I opted for a change to the menu tonight. Got a pot of chili simmering on the stove. Will make the cornbread in about an hour I don't panic about the weather. I did take advantage of the boss panicking about the weather, though, and started my weekend a few hours early
The wind sure makes a difference. It can be sharp. I made chili yesterday also - After working on the drive so we could get out if necessary.

A few years ago I used to make chili with Williams Chili Kits. But now they have disappeared. I haven't made chili I really like since. Wonder if anyone still finds those Williams kits. I started with that and added from there.
It surely is the weather for good hot chili.

Was -8°F here this morning, with lost of wind and drifting snow. Probably only got maybe 2"-4" of snow, hard to tell. We're all hunkered down for the day, watching TV or the birds feeding on the back porch. Lots of Junco, House Finches, Cardinals and Downy woodpeckers. County Highway Dept. plow has been down the road a couple of times, but, very little traffic.
10 year old grandson had to get dressed up and go out and wade through the drifts for about 10 minutes. They don't get this stuff in Sarasota.

Wind has started knocking down some of the dead ash trees I left in the forest.
Dropping some branches from live trees though. Snow squalls have started.
Still too warm here for anything to stick, but the wind is sounding like a train coming through.
Does not look like a lot of snow will hit us, but cleanup of branches will be a lot of work.

Apparently we've had 9.5" of snow.
The wind is 24.
Windchill is around -25.
Pressure is 29.81 and falling.

That's going to be a bit of a mess to clean up, I don't think we got the 3-5 they were predicting for us but hard to tell.
