I need some ideas on how to put a raft into a pond each spring and back out in the fall. I need to reach out to the center of the raft so I can lift it and keep it from hitting the front of the tractor. Any ideas? Be gentle, I'm new to this :)

What does it weigh, and how big? Search for "boom pole" and you'll find lots of options on here, but your limiting factor is going to be how much weight you want how far out in front of you.

That is a dangerous thing to do with a tractor. You can overload it so easily.

My old man has the extention boom off his Bobcat for sale currently. His extends from 8' to 12'.

But like repete said, you can overload your tractor easily. Dads old Bobcat was a S250, rated lift cap of 2500 but lifted over 3500lbs almost daily and I have unloaded pallets of materials off trucks that weighed right at 4100lbs. That begin said, with the boom at 12' and parallel to the ground the Bobcat was only able to lift 650-700lbs.

My suggestion is to go buy a good, cheap trailer for it. Then, replace the tires/wheels with very broad, high floatation tires/wheels. Like what is on snomobile style deck-over trailers, or even ATV tires.

Would something like this reach out far enough?

Make sure there is plenty of ballast on the rear if the raft is really heavy - most aren't.

Put skids on the bottom of your raft and a big eye hook on the end of it so you can drag it out with a rope (and a snatch block if you really want to make it easy).

The idea of straight lifting a significant weight from the water's edge with anything like a CUT seems about likely to succeed as a high speed chase behind a truck with a loose load of banana peels - someone's gonna get hurt.

Have you considered getting a 3 point hitch boom - And by the way I am not sure I would do that either but at least the rear axles aren't on a pivot like the front and you could load the FEL up with weight.

This is the one I have on the front of my PT.

Here are a couple pictures of boom my old man is selling. The first is with it extended to 12', the second is retracted to 8'.

I made a short boom for my bucket. Comes in handy now and then.

Here is our boom plus it gives us extra lift height. When using the dump motion of the FEL, it allows the "boom" to tilt forward providing extra reach. I decribed more in another thread.

Simpler and safer to winch it in and out every year with a small Ramsey winch
mounted on a 2 inch reciever kit winch tray, and provided you tie the ramp to the shore with a bit of nylon rope and install a pair of heavy hooks or eye bolts.
