I found a boom mower for sale and have been kinda shopping around. It is a Yeager Twose FT30 boom mower which is PTO driven 3point, self contained hydraulics with forward and reverse head.It has a 30' cut.

I have a Massey Ferguson 1240 (30 hp, 25 at pto) and wonder if this would work on my tractor. I don't plan on doing any big jobs with it just mowing some neighbors ditches and such with it. Will my tractor be heavy enough? I have weight in the tires and a loader so tractor is probably around 3500 lbs..

Has any seen this model? I have attached some pictures of the unit. They are asking $2500.

Thanks

Tim

From mowing just with side mowers, you would want weights on the opposite side and also flip the rear rims if that gives you the most stability.

What is the weight of the unit? THe ones I looked at were over 1klbs, which would push what my tractor could do in the back.

My guess is about 800 - 900 lbs... I found the newer twose mowers (about this size, I guess) to be around 850 lbs with 80 gallons of fluid. I know my 3 pt can handle that, as I have an old Howard Rotovator that is around 1000... Here is the tractor data sheet for my tractor:

TractorData.com Massey Ferguson 1240 tractor information

twose mower which might be a newer model???

http://www.twose.com/Products/HedgeAndVergeCutters/PDF's/TARange.pdf

I have not been able to find any info on this particular mower though....

I would like to not change my rear wheel width as right now my 60 inch brush hog and 50 inch tiller just cover the wheels (and it fits in my trailer without taking off the sides)...

Thanks

Tim

Got a reply back from Twose... I have attached the spec sheet...

Looks like my tractor would meet the specs..... They also sent me a user/parts manual... Only took an hour to respond, I am pretty impressed...

Thoughts?

Tim

Hello Tim,

The only way you wil know how well it works is to mount it on your tractor.

I you need parts at least you have the manual in hand to identify everything quickly. Nothing ventured nothing gained. If you do not have the rears filled with ballast I would do that before mounting the mower and the tank though.

Here is what I did to enable me to mow out over ditches and banks.

I put a palate like this on the bucket forks of my BX23 and bolted a hand push mower to the front end of the palate.

ive got one somewhat like it on a 40hp 3700lb tractor, the total reach of my mower is only 12' and i cant tell from the picture how much the reach is for that mower but it looks similer to mine. If you will keep the tractor on level ground you will be ok but if you plan to run on ground that leans doun toards the ditches then you will need to space the wheels out i spaced mine out to 7 foot and it very stable but you will know its there and it takes some getting used to in the pucker factor. I couldnt find a picture of it on the smaller tractor but this tractor can hardly tell its back there untill you get the tractor tilted doun hill on that side.

Digging this one up...

Any chance of an update from anyone using one of these? Just ran across a used one for sale.

Been going back and forth as to whether to get a larger offset flail or a smaller boom fail like this. I'd be looking to run it off my NX5510, which I figure should be plenty capable (my ground is pretty flat, so no real concerns there).
