Ok, I am a novice. I just saw a post about a "boom pole" for a 3-pt hitch, and said it was a help in dragging poles and other stuff. Sounds useful. What is a boom pole? What is it used for? Safety considerations

Thanks

It mounts on your 3pt. and resembles a crane. Its basicly a pipe that sticks out there with a chain on it so you can lift stuff and transport.

Here's a LINK to one at TSC. They are used to lift things. I've lifted my KK tiller off my trailer with mine, but I think I was at the limits of my tractor in doing it. As with any tractor implement, just go slow and be careful. I have to admit that I haven't used mine very much since I have a loader, but it's been handy the times I've needed it.

By now you probably know what a boom pole is from the other posts but I thought I'd throw this in to you - if you have any intention of buying a post hole digger for your tractor, you will also have a boom pole, that is with most models. I have a Leinbach post hole digger and the gearbox assembly comes off with just 1 pin - instant boom pole! It even has a hook welded to the end already. Don't forget about ballast on the front of your tractor when you start lifting something stuck pretty far out the back on a pole.
