Hello all,
I am new to the forum as far as posting, but have been an avid reader for years. I can usually find what info I need by browsing around but this time is a little more specific. I have restored/built myself a boom sprayer and need advice on spray nozzles. Come to find out this whole nozzle selection / sprayer pressure / travel speed, can get quite complicated. I have been all over the TeeJet website and have ended up even more confused. I only plan on using the sprayer for herbicide to kill broad leaf weeds and such in my pastures. The nozzle spacing is at 19" and I would like to keep the height around 30-36". Should I go with a Cone type nozzle or Flat Fan style? Also what degree should I use? Also, what pressure should I operate at? Going off the charts I have found I need about 40 degree nozzles??? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank You for you time.

To TBN from Alabama. I am also interested in what you find out. What size tank are you using? Is it a 3pt, ATV or trailered tank? How many acres are you spraying?

Flat fan nozzles will work. You probably can't adjust the pressure, and most pumps will produce 30 - 50 psi. Thats a good range. If you have more pressure, you need nozzles with bigger openings (more GPM).

I think my nozzles are 80 degree nozzles.

You will need to calibrate once you get everything in place. It's not that difficult to calibrate, but I don't have time to explain it here now.

You want flat fan. And I think your desired spray boom is height is probably too high. I would get some 11002 nozzles and keep the height about 18" above the canopy of whatever it is you are spraying.

I just finished doing exactly the same thing, rebuilding an old sprayer and roller pump given to me by a neighbor. I spaced the nozzles at 20 inches, and used 11004 flat fan tips, boom height was about 24 inches. Very happy with the results, through 11002 tips would save some product and thus be more economical.

Thanks for all the input guys. Yes it is a 3pt 75 gallon sprayer with a 8 roller pump. I agree with the flat fan nozzles, however if I use 80 degree then that will give me double coverage with my nozzle spacing correct? I could see as much as a 50% overlap but I feel like a full 100% is overkill and not economical. But then I don't really know that is why I am asking?! Back to the pressure setpoint with the roller pump...what do you recommend 40 to 50psi?? Thanks again everyone.
