So Thor's been here a couple of days now, I'm still having a hard time sleeping because I can't wait to get up and get out there again, and I'm developing some questions. Right now, the big one is about hydraulics.

When moving the mid/rear hydraulics up and down. they (the 3PH and the MMM) raise and lower in tandem. A new tiller (like Bo's) is coming this week, and it occurs to me that the 3PH ought to raise and lower independently of the MMM, or I'll be risking the MMM to pretty bumpy ground when the tiller is lowered far enough to do its job. I'd rather not remove the MMM to till. Is it necessary? Or can I get them to operate independently?

Thanks,

Jim

I looked at buying a Boomer with MMM. The mower lift is operated by the 3pt hitch but according to the MMM brochure..."You can raise and lower the deck with the tractor hydraulics. And, the mower deck can be locked in the raised position during transport, or when you're using the tractor for 3-point hitch jobs."

So, it seems that there is probably a pin or two that you can set once you raise the mower. This will keep it up at it's highest point while you use the 3pt for other jobs.

There are 2 pins, one on each side of the deck that are used to hold the deck up. Page 24 of the mower operators manual.

Jim,

I agree that the deck can be "pinned" up into the upper position, but the clearance under Thor still may not be what you want for a good clean tilling experience. The MMM drops out very easily, with the removal of four pins, and if on a smooth concrete surface, can be rolled out from under Thor. You will have to jack the front end up to gain clearance, but this really is an easy job to remove the MMM. The performance you get without the deck will be the reward. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

You're welcome, Jim. The pins also have cotter pins in the end of them that have to be removed and reinserted. I also agree that removing the deck for tilling would be advisable. I kept my deck on during this past winter (first winter owning the tractor) and found that moving snow would have been easier without the deck.

Here's the page from my manual.

Let me know if you need additional information. I'd be glad to scan and post it.

I take my deck off right after mowing. Then its off for all other work untill i mow again (most always once a week) It is simple to put on and off. I like to keep it cleaned and well greased and its easy with it removed. You will find the NH MMM in like a fine tuned watch and will keep your lawn perfect for years and years. My bush hog on the other hand, keep it greased and semi sharp but give'er heck the whole times shes runnin. I wouldnt want my MMM to get damaged while using any other attachment. Just my thoughts on the quality of the MMM

Larry, do you slide the mower out sideways or do you hoist the front end of your tractor up and roll it out forward, like the owners manual for my 33D suggests?
