New Holland Boomer 1025
My Boomer 1025 keeps jumping out of PTO Drive after a hour or so's mowng. Anyone had this problem?

It could be that the mechanical lever for shifting the PTO in gear is bent and is hitting a stop before the PTO is fully engaged. In the attached illustration. Item 14 is the PTO lever. Items 12/13 are what connects the lever to the transmission shift lever, item 10. I would disconnect the lever at item 10 and rotate it by hand to the fully engaged position and see if you can reconnect the linkage. You can't do that and then try the PTO because you won't be able to start the tractor with the PTO engaged and it would be too dangerous to try with the tractor running. I'd just try to see if everything is fully engaging in a static mode. If the lever is bent, you might be able to bend it back so that you get fuller engagement. Otherwise, your gear inside the transmission is probably worn and you will have to open it up to replace the engagement gear.

:)Thanks Jim, that's very sound advice. I'll let you know how I get on.

Looking at the exploded view you supplied, it seems that my Boomer is a bit different. It is a 2009 model with only 50-odd hours, and although I haven't investigated the mechanics thoroughly, I know that it has a coil spring that exerts outward pressure (at right-angles to the machine's long axis) on the engage lever. This force somehow seems to be involved in keeping the lever locked in the "Engaged" position in the plastic gate on top of the right mudguard.

At 50 hours it would be hard to imagine a gear worn to jumping. Linkage sounds like the culprit.

That is my thinking also. I have asked the dealer's mechanic to come and investigate the problem. I hope this proves to be my cheapest option. My only concern is that every person I have spoken with at the dealer's end, all seem a bit vague on this problem and claim to have never encountered it before.

Thank you again for your interest and input.:)

I thought that the PTO on class III Boomer tractors is hydraulically operated. That means that the lever would only operate a hydraulic valve? Right? Keep looking at the linkage to ensure that nothing is bent or in a bind.

Just out of the dealer, 12-month warranty period, but fortunately, here in Australia we have good consumer laws. One of these stresses that all goods must be merchantable. In this case, New Holland would be hard pressed to claim reasonable merchantability on a machine which cost AUD $21,000 and has done only 50-odd hours.

I,m not familar with the tractor, but is there a safety switch in the seat that could be bad? Seems to me if something were bent, pto would disengage for the start not only after running for a hour or so.
