Bought a 5310 & goodies!

Don't know squat about tractors but I needed to clear some woods and mow a 10 acre field. I think I got a great deal. (At least it was great compared to the others I shopped locally). Got a JD 5310 2WD (w/200 hrs as a rental), two sets of hydraulics, joystick controller, synchro trannie, & grill guard for $15,800. Was so happy about the deal that I told them to add a loader on the front, put a canopy on the top and a 7' mower behind. Whole deal came to $23k + change including tax. Should be ready next week. Heck, I'm like a kid at Xmas. Can't wait to tackle the field and woods. Told my wife I saved $400 on front weights by adding the loader.

Brownie, I can't tell if you got a good deal or not but I can say you got one serious tractor there. You'll have to post some photos for us "little" tractor guys to drool over /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I have the 5410MWD, loader rotoary cutter etc. I have been very happy with my machine...if anything I'd say the 5310 seems slightly big for 10 acres, but then again no one complains when their tractor is too big, just to small. Enjoy.

Congrats, I think you'll like it.
I had a 2wd JD 2150 w/FELfor 14 years and loved it, it was a real workhorse. Last year I traded it for a JD 5410 MFWD w/ FEL and it's a great machine (same as yours except 4 cylinders). I have kind of got into adding stuff onto it this spring as I have added a 4 n 1 bucket and a hyd. top link and built a ballast weight rack that fits onto the 3 pth.
I'll tell you one thing that really upped the "ease of use" factor for me was adding one of the quick hitches. Those cat 2 implements are pretty unwieldy and changing tools has not been a dreaded chore since I got one of these. I have one that came from Tractor Supply (approx. $200 if I remember correctly) and it has worked flawlessly (I painted it JD green of course). Go from bush hog to box scraper in 60 seconds and no heavy lifting!
I hope you enjoy using your 5000 series JD as much as I have.

Brownie, That's one hell of a nice machine.

Please have the dealer make sure that the tractor has had the clutch rod update done. It's a mandantory safety PIP and won't cost a dime, but it can save your life or the lives of anyone around the tractor.

Hey Guys! The 5310 and goodies arrived on Friday. I drove it around a little and couldn't wait to mow on Saturday. Saturday came and I had an absolute ball ! The mower tamed my 10 acre field in no time flat. Rabbits and field mice were running all over the place. Found a couple of places where the contractors had dumped concrete, so I got to use the front end loader to scoop it up and pile it off the field. Used the FEL to level off a mound of dirt. When I finished, I didn't want to quit, so I went into the woods and started clearing trails and cleared out some woods.

Why didn't someone tell me tractors were so much fun? I would have gotten one years ago.

Can't wait for the weekend, so I can go back out and clear out some more woods.
